  • So I noticed some things that didn’t make sense to me. Why did you get a 4 channel amp for only 2 speakers? I’d understand if the remaining two channels were used to power a sub but they’re just being unused now. Also why would you go with component speakers if you just wanted to use two door speakers? I feel like full range speakers would have worked a lot better

  • Well if you’re looking to upgrade your speakers then I guess it would be worth it what kind of stupid ass question is that

  • you should have mentioned, the reason youre checking for which blue wire is the right one, is one is for power antenna, which will act like a amp turn on while youre on the fm tuner source, but will shut off when you go to another source. Usually when youre installing the headunit fresh, it'll default to the fm source so they may think that its the right one.

  • You could use a drill/tap combo bit to create your mount points.

  • The most important information to look at when selecting audio equipment is to verify the number are referring to RMS or peak ratings. While working with batteries, disconnect the ground terminal first and reconnect ground terminal last.

  • I added 6x9s in my Miata behind the seats you can cut that metal and fit them in there and amplified those also. Sounded great

  • Step 1: Get rid of the little dinky Miata. Get a proper family car or van or SUV with at least rear doors.

  • if you don't want to mess with wiring to the doors you can run the amp wires upto the dash with a matching plug for the loom, disconnect the speaker loom from the head unit and plug it into the amp wires instead. that way you can swap back easily if you remove the amp.

  • head units tend to clip on the internal amplifier too, if you tested the internal amp for distortion/clipping you would probably only been able to use 2/3 - 3/4 of the volume control. some will clip on the rca outs but most will not allowing you to use the full range of the volume dial (always best setting volumes and gains with an oscilloscope) if you use speaker level inputs to your amp instead of rca's you will end up just amplifying a clipped signal unless you test the head unit for clipping and limit your volume level to that point..

  • To someone who knows car audio. I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata with the basic ass audio system. It’s very not good (lol). What can I get with 800-1000 bucks and do I need to replace all the speakers. I think the system has 6 in total.

  • Premium aftermarket headunit have a lot of power in them. Yes you need a good quality speakers and an amp, but most premium units have built-in amps. While the built-in amp may not be as good as an actual amp it will help the oem amp you have on your car, if your car came with one. Also if you're installing an amp depending on the wattage it's best to also use a separate battery to power it. But really for premium sound you have to know how use the in dash tuning system in whatever premium unit you got and tuning the amp also. Also also Kicker speakers and Pioneer Headunits for life.

  • If I were to fit an amp into my car I would need custom insurance here in the UK. The cost would literally increase 10 fold. Luckily as long as the headunit power is clean and you have efficient speakers, an amp isn't really needed.

  • 1000 times yes! I am lucky and drive an 03 Fast n Furious Ford lighting. (I've installed my gear except the first time, a physics PHD did it. When things broke in my first car he helped me troubleshoot problems. I was already in college physics by then. If you know how to install it a ported 15' sub box in the back of a dinky car is pretty cheap. Heartbreaking to go though the thefts bc I design them to never be stolen again. Currently my 18 year old baby has 2 amps, a capacator (not big enough) sound insuluation. all basic speakers have been replaced and have their own amp because you have to have balance. Life pro tip; get your dad to help you unbolt the seats to make it impossible to get one of my amps. Right now electric problems. A "security" shop targeted the hell out of me and hacked up my wiring bad. For the most part it still goes. Depressed I payed a mechanic 2k+ to screw up the electronics bad. I think I can wire a seperate hot when key on relay. windows downt roll down. AND SUPER BUMMER the Lightning is 18 yrs old. I wanted fresh shocks, belts, supercharger and intercooler stuff to be top notch. Now I only get 8psi of boost. It always slapped up to 12psi. I rarely lose street races. As far as the audio not powering up its just the deck. also the AC cluster. And overhead console when engine on. Kill the engine they magically work. Thank God my dash cluster and compass work. I miss scaring people w 3800W of sound. Capacitors so underrated. I've got shocked pretty w a 5 F one with a lose cable. I suspect they give your alternator less work too. No dimming headlights or AC strain. Thanks for reading my TED talk. Lightning gurus I have a salvaged 02 L wiring harness if that helps. Never selling the truck I can drive to you! Last tip, get a drill and screw through car's metal and the speaker box. Thow in odd screw types. Then screw in the subs that weigh 20 pounds each. similar deal with your amps. Throw in the most random metal plates with drill bits they wont have. It's satisfying af to see the someone made a pathetic attempt on it. Ha ha.

It seems obvious that you understand much more about car AND likely home audio than this video can reveal. I’d love to see a video of a modern, more integrated system from the factory. NO SPEAKER LEVEL INPUTS OR CHEATS SUCH AS THIS. ALSO, ONLY ONE OR TWO 8” SUBWOOFERS CAN BE USED? Other than that, maybe do a HI LOW of this. Punchy, flat, clean audio that can make your hair stand up on your arms at a nominal volume. “Think B@W 800D pair processed and powered by McIntosh in a car.”Just an example.

  • Out of all the 6×9 or door speakers I have owned nothing sounded better than the infinity brand. Bass wise jl and old school orion were my best.

  • I was expecting this video to be just about upgrading your speakers. Not a "seats out" rewire and install of a four channel amp with just 2 speakers using disproportionately expensive speaker wire!

    • Depends. Sony headunits output 4x55w and is more than enough for almost everyone. Chinese ones are lucky to hit 40w...they might need one. Anything less than 40w per channel is not enough.

  • Very informative and well worded video. I was wondering about adding an amp into a car and now I have some answers. Also I want to point out that a headunit by itself can be a godsend for a sound system. I replaced the headunit in my '14 WRX years ago and it sounded phenomenal with my stock speakers, but this was a '94 so that explains some of it. The issue was that the stock headunit was underpowered and could not supply enough power to the speakers hence why the music starts to sound like garbage at a certain volume. After replacing the headunit I could go to almost max volume and still be able to listen without too much distortion but the clarity was superior. Also to note I had used the headunit EQ to turn down lows and divert them to my subwoofer channel because I added an underseat subwoofer which had its own amp built in and also had its own wired remote that you could use to tune the gain and volume much like the amp in the video except the controls were located on the amp itself. This is an easy start for anyone who wants to get into upgrading stuff on their cars. Headunits are slightly more complicated with the wiring and such but I did it as an novice with the soldering iron and learned a lot.

  • I want to see you get good sound out of the speakers that were in the OEM seats by your head. Those awkward shape speakers always sucked even when replaced.

  • I liked it as a bass head with two 12" 3krms subs and have a 5k amp making around 145db's with the meter in the kick panel. Also make sure you're grounds are all clean. If not they can mess up the amp. You didn't have to run the wires from the front so for the people that do. Run your power wire and rca's on opposite sides of the interior, or else you'll get distortion in your subs from the power wire next to the rca's if you don't. AND AGAIN CLEAN YOUR GROUNDS TO BARE METAL. paint over after.

  • Put rubber grommets in between the amp and body to keep from vibration messing the amp up.

  • You didn’t really talk about the important stuff, you didn’t show how to set gains. It’s not a volume knob!! You didn’t talk about ohms and loads, you didn’t talk about polarity and speaker phase....

  • Why are you running a 4 channel amp but only using 2 speakers? Could have saved some money with a 2 channel. Doesn't look like 2 more speakers are in the plans. (Unless you are bridging the rears to run a sub later? )

  • This videos disturbs me on so many levels 1 you don't need 120$ of wirings 2 you don't need 120$ of wirings 3 you don't really need 120$ of wirings, you probably don't really need 12$ of wirings 4 if you are the crazy audiophile type that needs 120$+ of wirings, you don't run an unbalanced audio line through your whole car near the whole electrical system (and you consider balance audio a horrible thing, so you are pretty much screwed. but if you are the crazy audiophile type you are pretty much screwed anyway) 5 The pioneer dmh-1500nex has 4 50W channels amplifier, which's perfectly fine to drive your 6.5" speakers. You don't need an external amplifier for this configuration. Yes, in theory the speakers are rated up to 75W, but you don't really want to go up there (and you can hear distortion when you put your volume to the max). Yes, in theory that Jl amp might be "better", but I'll eat my hat if you can spot the difference in a blind test, especially considering that Pioneer is not horrible stuff. Congrats, you just threw away 230$ for nothing. 6 you don't really need 120$ of wirings. 7 the speaker cables you changed because "they might be corroded" looked just fine 8 the pioneer dmh-1500nex has a low pass/high pass crossover. the hint to filter out frequencies that the speakers cannot reproduce is a good way to improve your audio quality without spending a penny, but you don't need the amplifier to do that 9 90+ db sound will damage your hearing after some time 10 you don't need 120$ of wirings Conclusions: you spent 500$ to get exactly what you would get spending 120$ (buying the speakers alone)

  • 87 DBa and you still want them louder? don't be surprised when you go deaf lol. Anything over 85 on a regular basis is a bad idea. Ask me how I know. Nothing wrong with wanting better quality, but the volume should be about 4-5 points down on the list.

    • Not really. The output from the headunit has to be the start point. If you have great speaker or rubbish ones, if the power to them is low, they will never sound good. Alternatively, a middle of the road, non premium 4x40watts head unit for about $80 will make huge improvements that a change in speakers will not. Always start with the head unit. That power output is the first consideration. From there, then you consider speakers. Or, you can upgrade your speakers and gain literally nothing....until you upgrade your head unit and then you get the double gain. Better ability to handle the lower frequencies at volume...
