Cosworth is the legendary name that powered some of history's greatest cars like the Lotus 49, the Ford Sierra Cosworth and the Mercedes 190E. They're a small company with a very strange philosophy when it comes to building engines. It saves them time, money and makes MO POWA BABEH! So how does it work? I'll show ya.

    • Can I be honest? I really don't want to know how much you enjoy "manscaping" buddy. I don't even like to see that in the dressing room at the gym.

    • This is the way the RR Merlin was developed

    • Nolan, like what you said about 3 cylinder Engine from Cosworth, Is it possible to engine swap the 1983 Volkswagen Golf Mk2? I want to know, how the Classic and Modern VW hatchback enter the world of Sleeper cars with Cosworth I3 engine looks like? Without weird features and having a simple car production but, a maximum results. Just like Nissan 400Z.

    • Me and My dad owns 9 COSWORTHS and a few other cars like a RS200 and a RS500😅

    • I am not a doctor, I am the only Unified Field Theorist. I am also the last Paladin, and yet need my steed... Biophysics is more true. Cancer can not easily be cured, but it can be prevented. Research suggests oral intake of inseminate is the leading cause of Cancer, Cancer himself did this research 17000 years ago, it is really not new. Origin sin is the need to become unclean of such to procreate. Spartans got this. While many other medical truth can be learned from the effects of oral insemination, we will continue on to supercars. I can discuss a cyclical internal combustion fusion engine, set in shells about a strontium core, but instead we will stay practical, so no hyper anodes or cathode or anything that requires the theory of everything. An automobile with a massive torque converter, main power is two large electric motors. The torque converter acts as a transmission to he axle. The axle powers another larger torque converter that acts as yet another transmission. This transmission also acts as a transfer case. The wheels are independent in all forms. Powered to full articulation. Lubricants are cooled by liquid hydrogen, as such is also used for fuel. The starter is a gas burning engine. Main power comes from the international transit system, providing the vehicle with gigawatts if needed. A bank of capacitors handle phase discrimination, store a microsecond of energy, and can reverse flow to return breaking energy to the main line or the batteries, this energy is beyond the capacitance of our transmission, which hold a extending highspeed flywheel. He flywheel will allow acceleration to the point of killing the occupant. Studdered drop frame breaking can also kill the occupant with g-forces. The vehicles handling is beyond capable, out doing most jeeps offroad, and able to dance like a cartoon, putting all low riders to shame. Because of the spool, it will win drag, buolt right it will win baja, and produced, it would win nascar. The vehicle is designed like a fighter in first generation. A project of global conquest over finite crude oil. It does not sputter, it has a dyno that screams power. The locomotives has nuclear punch for breaking cars at an incline, along with climbing forward wheels, it has a return burner, micro mesh, molten carbon fuel cells, and much more to get it moving at speeds faster than any other train. Slowing a train car becomes a truck or bus as it leaves the pack. Combining the system with massive hydrological forces for storage of potential energy, alongside the functions of mass delivery, and world peace comes through the heroes demanding the roads for the age of true supercars. No really...

  • Manscaping.......really? FFS what have men turned into?

  • Light 500 hp straight six would be nice

  • Hell yeah. Cozza is where it’s at.

  • Caterham 7

  • Is this 3 cylinder engine really the best? I guess in terms of performance it’s not, cause Koënigsegg built a better one with 600 hrsprs and it’s very light and small, they put it in Gemera

  • "It's a bit better than Worthcos"... But not as good as TinDuck!

  • Was the Sierra Cosworth well known over in the US? Its an icon in the UK.

  • can you make video about moskvich

  • anyone who disses the Vega was probably not alive in the 1970's

  • the T50 is the ultimate dream car

  • Everyone thinks steam is dead, but dare I say that's was before AC units in cars where a thing. I could see steam making a semi comeback in remote areas. The biggest issue with stream was water consumption. Otherwise you just used 1 direct drive two way piston, no transmission. Couple that with a transmission and a computer system with mechanical pressure relief valves, you could run with lower pressure thus not burning as much fuel to make power. If you don't know the top speed on no transmission steam motor.. you might be surprised

  • Plesse do a video about Koenigsegg next tims. They are imo the coolest car company out there when it comes to innovation and technology. One of those few company's that hasn't been ruined by shareholders and other buzzkill.

  • How about a cosworth vega video

  • thanks for the ball check kings

  • Soooo what we’re saying is @ford to drop this is a Fiesta RS??

    • Also, RIP TopGear track, will be getting ripped up soon.

  • Whos here from tiktok?

  • Cosworth's development process reminds me of what GM did in developing the first successful mainline locomotive diesels: one cylinder test mules with switchable power assemblies. That was mainly to get the injection system and thermal design dialed in so it didn't have to thump along at essentially one low RPM like all other diesels of the day. GM ended up leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else building locomotive diesels.

  • EEclone is killing your videos with ads . There are so many that I had to skip this video for personal sanity purposes. EEclone NOW SUCKS!!!!!!

  • Bad analogy, it's like getting thrown out of math class for doing differential calculus in algebra

  • I would totally put that in a mark 8 Fiesta ST Cosworth trippen

  • Really like Nolan's t-shirt! #Indycar

  • C20LET♥️

  • I miss my old Sierra cosworth. I will have another if it kills me

  • How about...2 of those i3 to make a straight 6 to slap into a new s2000. 500hp high revving n/a. Add a manual...perfect

  • If cosworth's 3 cylinder engine is "maybe one of the best ever built", what would you call Koenigsegg's TFG 2 litre 3 cylinder that puts out 600 freaking hrsprs!!!

  • Or used to

  • then a second and third ad before six minutes

  • ad in middle of video is to long......

  • So cosworth was the og vtec power that hit high rpm screaming

  • And then Koenigsegg introduced it's 3 cylinder engine 🙃.

    • Different kinds of engines. This came out after the Gemara engine I think.

  • God that 3 cylinder 250hp Cosworth engine in a Honda Beat..........

  • Much better than 2jz

  • Engines that rev that high don't live long enough to be put in a cheap smol car. You wanna replace the motor in your fiesta at 80% of a model line crapped it's engine out? OR you just build the engine out of unobtainium, and your fiesta costs a quarter mil, but still rocks cloth seats.

    • You buy that car, you're not trying to buy an everyday car. I would say just put it in an affordable sports car.

  • Congradulation on your guys achievement of the 5M followers 👏 Speaking of great 3 cylinder engine don't forget about the new Yaris Gazoo engine with reported 257 hrsprs lol. Bad thing I'll never be sold in the US. Keep up the great work guys 👍🏽

  • You forgot the F2 engines from which the DFV stemmed.

  • Ah..imagine something like a weird hogh-revving in-line 9 with 750hp NA. One can dream

  • Duckworth, hell of a name...

  • What about the 600HP 3 cylinder 2.0L engine koenigsegg built??

    • A very different kind of engine. 11:43

  • Thank you Nolan J Sikes for talking about this company and also Adrian Newey's Valkyrie and Gordon Murray's T50 and T50 S: Niki Lauda. T50s engine revs up to 12,500RPM in 0.3 sub-seconds of a second or 28,400 RPM per second, that's bike levels of engine response rates. Also, thanks for talking about testicular cancer, must be a doozie to go through. I would also like to say that Ferrari also had done this and DRIVETRIBE has done a video on the 3 cylinders 2 stroke already. COSWORTH technically did it first.

  • Remember Cosworth built on an established industry here in England. BC (before Cosworth) there were Ricardo, Weslake and Coventry Climax, to name but a few. In and around the 50's into the 60's the same names turn up time and time again, like an exclusive club for engineers.

  • Cosi Escort. Hnnnnnng

  • Similarly, Kenworth was founded by HW Kent and HK Worthington, from the ashes of the Gerlinger Motor Co.

  • Damned Good Job Nolan!!!!

  • After "Ultracar" gets played out can we level up to "Psychocar"?

  • Thank you for wearing an Indycar T-Shirt!!

  • Sorry to piss on your parade, but the original DFV wasn't particularly powerful, nor was it that much better in any respect than any of the competition. What it did, though, it did really, really well. It was, after that first year, phenomenally reliable. It was light, it was cheap(ish) and it was small. The size thing helped the DFV to stay competitive for far longer than it should have. Just when it looked like Ferrari's V12 would knock the V8 DFV into oblivion, along came Colin Chapman and ground effect. The size of the engine all of a sudden became really, REALLY important. While the V12 Ferrari took up most of the space behind the driver, the Cozzie left vast spaces for the designer to eek out ever more opportunities for vacuum to suck the car down onto the road. So the DFV's corpse was hauled back out of the grave and the legend just carried on.

    • @AdamTheMan1993 Would you PLEASE read my post. I said that the ORIGINAL DFV wasn't that much better. By that I meant the very first year's engines. From then on, the engines were still slightly down on power against the most powerful engines on the grid (but up on almost everything else), but they more than made up for that by their phenomenal reliability and the ease with which engineers could integrate the engine into the chassis. it is no coincidence at all that almost every single one of the best handling F1 cars from the era were powered by DFVs. Others were more powerful, had greater grip or whatever, but the DFV allowed designers to design chassis that could be poised and have excellent handling.

  • I want that three cylinder!

  • Is James Pumphrey available to help out with testicular cancer checks??

  • Can anyone emagine it what would be an pricetag on 1/4 engine from valkyrie? And if u put it in Fiesta, would it be cheaper from Focus rs?

  • Doesn’t koenigsegg make a three cylinder 600 hp engine?

    • @Pequa Boy Probably fine. A Hybrid though, so it is just not the same thing.

    • @Tyrus Madsden Yeah. Watched it. Heard that. So the koenigsegg 3 cylinder is unreliable? LMAO. SMH

    • 11:43 A very different kind of engine.

  • imagine how many hi-revving 3 cylinders if they sold the 3 cylinder

  • Imagine a single seater, even smaller in footprint than the BAC MONO, built with a modern take on classic F1 style. Then strap the Cosworth 3 cylinder with 250hp and a skyhigh redline in the back, and you got yourself a recipe for fun

  • Makes more power than my V8

  • Boxer 6 midengine tt

  • Cosworth engineers say that turbos are for engine builder that don't know how to make horsepower

    • And yet a Ford Sierra Cosworth that was developed for Group A touring cars was tuned up to produce between 500 to 600 bhp winning loads of races around the world

  • I think this is my favorite donut vid

  • Imagine this 3 cylinder engine in a Miata or GT86

  • Love the video and I loved it when I first saw it on drive tribe

  • I am a big car enthusiast. I was so upset on finding India's so called car youtubers like gaisal kahn who call or pretend themselves car guy without having any passion/knowledge about cars. So I started watching DDE, STRADMAN, SHMEE150, TAVARISH, HOOVIES GARAGE, MANNY KHOSHBIN AND VINWIKI I want your suggestion to start a channel inspired by donut media(specifically their up to speed series)in hindi to step up our INDIAN game. Plz.. share your views on this idea.

    • I'm from Nepal and can feel your loneliness.

  • They should build a turbo straight six...

    • @Inan Ismailov Excuse me?

    • @Inan Ismailov

    • @Tyrus Madsden you said nothing

    • Cosworth? I don't think they're planning on touching turbos.

  • Other issue is Aston Martin Cosworth v12 is made to accomplish small series cars homologation an much less restrictive than standard homologation in every aspect including emissions. So this amazing i3 couldn't be homologated for mass production cars

  • Donut media needs make a video on weirdest Races in the world. Something like this!😂

  • Can James speak without yelling?

  • Interesting fact. The 4 cylinder F2 engine that Cosworth built to test the design for the DFV was called the FVA. It was dominant in F2 racing at the time. BMW had 2 attempts at designing an engine to compete with it, and failed. Eventually, they bought an FVA engine and copied it :-)

  • 5:42 🇮🇪😎👍

  • At 6:20 “barges of the smog era”! I am 60 and that my friend is well said

  • Didn't Saab have a 3 cylinder car late 50`s - mid 60`s 2 stroke I believe?

  • Can you or anyone do a video about slipstream in F1

  • The world is doing all Electric in 5and all gas powered cars will be a conversation topic at cocktail parties.

  • The Koenigsegg Gemera's 3-cylinder can do 600hp. Imaging THAT in a v12 😆

    • 11:43 A different type of engine.

  • I wanna put that 3-banger in an MR-2

  • Where did ice cream trucks come from?

  • Did anyone else keep saying Deep F*cking Value in their head anytime Nolan said DFV?

  • that 3 cyclinder needs to find its way to a gr yaris

  • Dig T-R is also pretty cool

  • hear me out midengine small light rwd car with that 3 cylinder

  • Except, those two probably did not fail at Lotus, lol.

  • Cossie

  • All the 1L ecoboost lads hearing “powerful 3 cylinder” and instantly start drooling

  • test, scale up, rinse, and repeat. . .

  • sorry, dont like your formfactor, too much: "then this happend, then this happend, then this happend"-- events are not realy relevant to me, spec's and details about about functions are

  • "The Fiesta ST already is super fun." My car and I thank you Nolan!

  • But why couldn't they follow Honda's V10 and Ferrari's V12 with their V8 at the turn of the 90's? Lack of money? Oil Crisis?

  • Ok there is no way I am the only one who thought it was spelled cogsworth.

  • Only donut can get away with 3 ads in one 7 minute video...not including the ads that donut make themselves.

  • Cosworth Yaris Confirmed!

  • Pagani Huayra R engine is also been developed by Cosworth

  • The ferrari 2 stroke 3 cil.

    • For the F50, the one DRIVETRIBE talked about.

  • The 3 banger made me think of Koeniseggs biturbo 3 banger.... 600hp in 70kgs... mindblowing small engines like these are so awesome

  • that mustache looks good

  • Imagine Cozzie making motorcycle engines?

  • Loved my Opel Calibra with the C20XE engine. Even if it only had 150bhp it felt super fast, and paird with the quad pipe exhaust I had it made such an amazing sound. Miss that car a lot...

  • You gotta talk about the Mercedes E190 Cosworth more

  • Am I the only one who wants a V6 of that 3-cylinder in a successor of the Honda S2000? Let the engine be sound-tuned by Yamaha and rev to 10000 rpm and call the car S10K.

  • We need a D-List video of the best engines that never went into a production car (but should have).

  • The Vagner lookin real nice

  • Dude, that Nismo you shat on was not only a Transformer it was one of the things in my early childhood that made me look at cars and go WOW. IT'S NOT UGLY YOU'RE UGLY!

  • Hasn’t Koenigsegg taken the crown on 3cyl engines with their TFG?
